To help a family celebrate their heritage, I was called to play at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Monday, January 6th, 2025. As I arrived early at the cemetery office, I endeavored to connect with the funeral home director and the family .

There are currently three event shelters at Georgia National, and the office directed our service to shelter number three, shown below.

The family requested the songs “Shenandoah”, “Danny Boy”, and “Highland Cathedral” as the hearse arrived at the shelter, and as the casket went from the hearse to the shelter. After military honors and personal remembrances from family members, the service ended and the family had requested “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” as the last song. After the service, I took some time to appreciate the grandeur of the cemetery. Here below are pictures of the bell tower that chimes each hour, and all the graves at the very front of the cemetery. While I was there that day there were many construction workers expanding the cemetery with a lot of landscaping and construction, and that expansion has been moving fast for the last year and a half.
